Las Vegas Fab 48 Tournament Format / Rules

Tourney Format: Boys 15U-17U Divisions & Girls 15U-17U Divisions

* This year we are offering the 14U Boys only an opportunity to play in either or both of the Fab 48 events.

* THIS TOURNAMENT IS GRADE BASED ALLOWING 3 GRADE EXCEPTIONS PER TEAM.

Boys Pool Play: Invitational Division

The Boys Invitational Division will consist of 48 teams. The Top 32 teams will advance to the Invitational Championship rounds beginning Saturday. 3rd place teams will go to the overall Bronze championship which will include teams from the Invite, Diamond, Platinum and Gold divisions. The 4th place teams will get a consolation game. Pool play will be conducted on Thursday and Friday. Teams will either play 1 pool play game on Thursday and 2 pool play games on Friday or 2 pool play games on Thursday and 1 pool play game on Friday.

Boys Pool Play: All Other Divisions

All Divisions will consist of 48 teams placed into 12 pools of 4 teams. The Top 16 seeded squads will be placed into four “super pools” – all 16 super pool teams will receive automatic berths into the 32 team championship play-off that begins on Saturday. Pool play will be conducted on Thursday and Friday. Teams will either play 1 pool play game on Thursday and 2 pool play games on Friday or 2 pool play games on Thursday and 1 pool play game on Friday.

Play-Offs/Consolation:

After pool play concludes, 32 teams will be placed into a single-elimination championship play-off.

Girls Pool Play:

Pool play will be conducted on Wednesday and Thursday. Teams will either play 1 pool play game on Wednesday and 2 pool play games on Thursday or 2 pool play games on Wednesday and 1 pool play game on Thursday.

 

Tourney Rules: Boys 15U-17U Divisions & Girls 15U-17U Divisions

National High School Federation rules will be followed except:

  1. Each player will be allowed a total of six (6) fouls before being disqualified.
  2. ONE and ONE FREE THROWS will NOT be shot until the 10th FOUL!!! (NOT THE 7TH!!!)
  3. All games will be played in two (2) sixteen (16) minute halves.
  4. The first overtime period will be two (2) minutes in length. The second overtime period will be one (1) minute in length. After two (2) overtimes, the third overtime will be SUDDEN DEATH. There will be one (1) thirty-second (30) timeout in overtime with no carryovers for each team.
  5. There will be a two (2) minute rest period between halves.
  6. Teams will be allowed to call two (2) full timeouts and two (2) thirty-second (30) timeouts during the regulation game. (FOR OVERTIME SEE RULE #5).
  7. There will be a minimum two (2) minute warm-up period between games.
  8. No game will begin before the time listed on the official game schedule.
  9. All teams are expected to arrive for games prior to the scheduled start times. The amount of grace time that a team will be allowed and not have to forfeit their assigned game when they are not prepared to play at game time will be determined by the tournament committee based on all information available. If a team knowingly cannot play their game, they must notify the Tournament Director in advance.
  10. All players must have high school eligibility remaining or be going into their FIRST YEAR of prep school.
  11. All players must be legal residents of the state in which the team is located or be legal residents from a geographically adjoining state. No more than a total of three (3) players from adjoining states may participate on any one-tournament team.
  12. Pool Tiebreakers: In case of a two-way pool play tie, the winner of the head-to-head matchup will get the higher seed. In case of a three-way tie, a point differential using all pool play games will be used to determine play-off seeding with no win garnering more than 15 points allowed (15 point maximum per win) as well as no loss being counted as more than 15 points in the negative. IF there is a tie of point differential: if two teams tie, we move to head to head tie breaker.
  13. Fighting WILL NOT be tolerated. Players or coaches involved will be removed from tourney.
  14. Mercy Rule: If a team is up 20 points or more with three (3) minutes or less to play in regulation, the game will go to a running clock.
  15. A player may play in more than one division if they are with the same organization.

* All formal protests will be reviewed by the tournament committee, and their rulings will be final. A $100 fee will required to file a formal complaint, and be refunded only if the protest has been won.

** Any player found in violation of the age rule will be immediately suspended from the rest of the tournament, and the violating team will be given losses to all games that the violating player participated in.

Tourney Format: Boys 6-8 Grades (12U-14U)

* Grades 6-8 will use regulation size ball - 29.5.

Pool Play:

Teams will be placed into pools of 4. 1st-3rd in pool play will also be included in championship play. 4th place teams will receive a consolation game. For Session 1 - July 26-29, Pool play will be conducted on Wednesday and Thursday. Teams will either play 1 pool play game on Wednesday and 2 pool play games on Thursday or 2 pool play games on Wednesday and 1 pool play game on Thursday.

Pool Play for Session II - July 30-Aug 2 will work the same way with pool play games being played on Sunday and Monday. Teams will either play 1 pool play game on Sunday and 2 pool play games on Monday or 2 pool play games on Sunday and 1 pool play game on Monday.

Championship Play-offs:

Session I. July 26-29

*The first two rounds of this championship play-off will be played on Friday with the quarter-finals, semi-finals and Finals scheduled for Saturday. The last Championship game will be held at approximately at 6:00pm (time subject to change).

Session II. July 30 - Aug 2

*The first two rounds of this championship play-off will be played on Tuesday with the quarter-finals, semi-finals and Finals scheduled for Wednesday. The last Championship game will be held at approximately at 6:00pm (time subject to change).

Tourney Format: Boys 3-5 Grades (9U-11U)

* Grades 3-5 will use 28.5 size ball.

Pool Play:

Teams will be placed into pools of 4. All teams will be in the playoff championship. For Session 1 - July 26-29, Pool play will be conducted on Wednesday and Thursday. Teams will either play 1 pool play game on Wednesday and 2 pool play games on Thursday or 2 pool play games on Wednesday and 1 pool play game on Thursday.

Play-Offs:

After pool play concludes, all teams will be placed into a single-elimination championship play-off.

* In the 6-8 grade divisions, student I.D. or current 2016-17 report card is required.
* In the 3-5 grade divisions, copies of birth certificates are required.
